New Year’s is celebrated every year on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, each time it’s celebrated, people around the world make their resolutions. New Year’s was first celebrated 4,000 years ago. The tradition of making New Year’s resolutions began during the reign of Caesar. New Year’s resolutions were of a moral nature, like being kind to others. A New Year’s resolution is a decision to do or not do something in order to accomplish a personal goal or break a habit. It comes at a time when people look back at the past year and make an effort to improve themselves as the new year begins. Adults often make New Year’s resolutions to lose weight or exercise more. Kids make resolutions to get along better with siblings or to do their homework, all of their homework. Like many traditions, New Year’s resolutions have a long and interesting history.
