Imagine Prep’s boys varsity volleyball team is looking to perform well in its second season as a varsity sport. The coach for the team will be Ms. Alexa Pupo, also a history teacher at the school, it is her second year coaching the boys and she has coached our female volleyball team for five years. She said that the practices will happen on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, all after class. “Oh gosh, I think glows are that we have some really strong athletes returning from last year which I'm really excited about. There is a handful of boys that are coming back that are really solid foundation for the team,” Pupo said. “Grows are probably what we were working on last year too which was just really learning to understand like the more technical aspects of the game, so really just working on technique and then putting all of that together as a team, definitely.”

It’s the seventh inning, toward the end of the softball game and a very talented young high school girl is up to bat. She swings. She hits. She begins to run out of the batter’s box and up to first base but her knee locks up. However, being the fighter she is, she continues to run to first. She gets there and her knee bends backward and she falls. In excruciating pain she has the feeling that she is out for the season. Hannah Millage, a junior at Imagine Prep is a varsity softball player and basketball player. She’s been playing softball since she was five years old and basketball since she was in second grade. Of course it is expected that when one plays sports that they will get hurt once in a while. Millage has been injured countless times since the time she began playing softball and basketball. However even though she’s had multiple injuries she has only been to the hospital once and urgent care four times. The worst injury that Millage received was when she was 15 years old. She bruised her knee bone right where it bent while playing softball and was forced to take a break from playing for a few months. Millage described what she felt that day. We are number one! The music, the cheers and the rhythm. Cheerleaders rushing all over the court to make sure they get their stunts done before the music ends. The crowd applause. This is what a cheerleading competition looks like. At Imagine Prep, the competitive cheer team has been competing for years and has won many competitions. Sarah Trapp, one of the two coaches from the cheer team, along with Phoenix Hunt, is really proud of her team and what they’ve accomplished over the past years. “They've grown a lot in the past two years from our first competition,” Trapp said. At Imagine Prep one of the main sports for winter season is wrestling. The team is made up of a large amount of boys and as incredible as it sounds, one girl participating at the moment, her name it is Selah Wallace and she is a freshman. “I feel like the team it's really accepting and I ride in with all the other people they don't really see me like as the only girl so I feel like it's a really good experience,” Wallace said. Dance! Leap! Twirl! Its Imagine Prep’s one and only dance team. It’s their first year here. Sarah Trapp is the coach of the dance team, and shared some of her thoughts on the dance team. Trapp said that practices happen about twice a week. She said the team was created for many reasons. This is the first year dance has actually been brought to the Prep. Staff writer Kali Kaufmann The court is squeaking and the orange ball is flying through the air toward the hoop. Then… swish! This year at Imagine Prep the varsity basketball season is underway for both the girls and boys team. The boys have played their first tournament already and the girls team played their first game on Dec. 1st. Staff writer Kali Kaufmann Football, volleyball, cheer oh my! How have the Imagine Prep at Surprise middle school sports done this season you ask?
Ms. Alexa Pupo coached the middle school developmental volleyball team this year at Imagine Prep. Their record was 1-5 this season. Staff writer Autumn Froitland It’s 6:30, the bleachers are filling up, the cars are driving in and out, people coming from every direction, it’s game time. The grass is cut, the cheerleader’s pom poms rustle back and forth, they are turning on the lights and then here they come. Their jerseys are blood red and the sweat is already trickling down their necks, they get into position. The ref puts the whistle in his mouth, ready to blow, then three, two, one: we have kickoff.
The 2016 Storm football team is the first in IPS history to make the playoffs. The team competed on Nov. 12, but came up a bit short against Southwest Leadership Academy. The team ended their season with a 5-5 record. |
